My 9th term has come to its end, prompting me to reflect on how it went. In one word: Ambitious. I wanted this term to be better than the last which was a draggy and uninspired one. Although this term was not less challenging since I had to animate, film, design, code and research – The first 2 being the most work heavy.

Some projects fell short from how I envisioned them but I knew what I wanted to make. Now, I have a lot to share. Collecting the works that highlight my pass 4 months in one post will be too confusing. There will be a series of post for them as I upload the corresponding media along.

A batch of Highschool students toured our college this afternoon. They checked out my 2D class where we were using the Wacom Cintiqs. As if being watched like a zoo animal wasn’t surreal enough, my prof showed them an sample work of one of the best students. When I looked as well, I thought to myself “Hey, I animated that walk and run cycle!”. Apparently, I thought too loud so their gazes turned to my screen where I was testing my animation project. Awkwaaaard…

Looking at those highschool students so full of curiosity and amazement at what could lie ahead for their careers, intently observing if this college full of talent… Makes me remember how much I was excited to start art college. A stage where I will be able hone my skills and meet opportunities. Yet both my highschool self and the batch that visited us were oblivious to the screams of agony over projects and deadlines.

I used to tell myself that college won’t be as optimistic as I first thought. Even though I had no idea, I told myself to be prepared for stress. Right now when I’m readying my thesis proposal, in the middle of majors, being deprived of sleep and comfort of mind… My insides scream to give my tortured soul a break. That stress is a bigger demon than I’d imagine. There’s a part of me from highschool that’s keeps on reminding me of my mantra: No matter how much I will agonize, I signed up for this. I wanna tell that part “Screw you!”… But that’s just the lack of sleep that’s talking.

It was a small reward of pride when my prof indirectly said I was one of the best students. My prof’s compliment encouraged me to keep on accepting challenges and maintaining my standards. Despite all the agony I signed up for, I should be able to prove my competence. It’s a relief to finish everything that needs to be done, but a reward to make all the struggle worth it.

Ah yes, an end-of-the-year blog! I can’t say it’s my favorite year but 2009 was a hell of a roller coaster ride. My share of breakdowns and misfortunes were more frequent than last year but I also had a healthy share of new experiences and friends.

I don’t usually take note of my new year’s resolution but I already have some things I want to do next year. I want next year to be productive overall but I have to take things step-by-step, here’s a more specific list for bite-sized brain processing.

Do Project 365 -take a picture everyday.

Fill up a PageOne journal – I can bind my own journal but PageOne journals have nice paper to paint on. I should add colors to my sketches. The hard thing is that bookstores don’t restock these journals frequently.

Work on a more professional concept art portfolio – More character designs, more background designs.

Join ConceptArt.org – I always think I’m not worthy enough to join them but darnit, I need more guidance on illustration.

Make a new or alternate DeviantART account – Aside from the embarassingly long name my current account has, I want an account that can be recognized for the concept art I’ll be working on.

That’s all I can think of right now but those certainly won’t be the only changes happening. Happy New Year everyone!

My midterms just ended so I thought I needed a day to just lie back. It’s been a while since I last visited the park for some photo tripping. Although I’ve taken a lot of pictures from the same park, I challenge myself to find something new to capture. Along with Ame and Karla , we went crazy with our SLR’s and with the playground.

Ame (left) and Karla (right) practice their trapeze on the swing.

Making a swing look emo

I imagined waking up in a cage for this. I had to lie down on the sand
- Good thing there was no poo on it.

Ame made a formation of twigs. I joined in on her picture taking.

One of our playmates. He asked for a pic of him dancing to some music played from afar.

Karla didn’t bring her SLR so she used her cameraphone

Ame and I. I look like a zombie. Gaaah

A pretty and lonely flower bud

I like how the ant is framed by a couple of bokeh circles

Another ant! Looking in the distance at how large the world can beee~

A tiny flower suspended by a string of web. It floats in a sea of bokeh.

The backrest of a bench

The sun tried to shine pass the large cloud. It made a pretty silver lining.

Something surreal about how the leafless tree look like roots

Leaves on the walkway

Then they had to lock us out of the park for being silly.
Well not really.

I got some nice new photo textures from this trip:
